What are Makeform's file upload limits?
Free forms allow 20 MB per file, 20 MB total per submission, and 3 upload fields; Pro and Business allow 1 GB per file, 2 GB per submission, and 100 upload fields. Every plan allows up to 10 files per upload field, with controls in the field settings.
Is it free? Yes. File uploads are free on every plan, with higher size and field limits on Pro and Business.
Steps
- Open the upload field's settings in your form.
- Set Max File Size (MB) if you want a smaller per-file limit. This setting can lower the plan limit, but it cannot raise it.
- Set Maximum Files to a number from 1 to 10. The default is 1 file per field.
- Set Allowed File Types to restrict uploads by file extension, or leave it empty to accept any type.
- Keep your form within its plan's upload field limit before publishing: up to 3 on Free or 100 on Pro and Business.
- Open Submissions to download files stored with a submitted response.
Limits by plan
| Limit | Free | Pro / Business |
|---|---|---|
| Per file | 20 MB | 1 GB |
| Per submission (all upload fields together) | 20 MB | 2 GB |
| Upload fields per form | 3 | 100 |
| Files per field | 1–10 | 1–10 |
The total submission limit applies across all upload fields together. Allowing more files in a field does not increase the total size a submission can carry.
The form's billing owner determines these limits. For a team form, that means the team owner's plan.
Publishing and upload attempts
Free forms also have an hourly cap on upload attempts per form to stop abuse. This is separate from the per-file, per-submission, and field-count limits above.
Makeform is a free AI form builder: describe what you want to collect and it builds the form for you, with unlimited forms and submissions on the free plan.
FAQ
Can I accept a file larger than 20 MB on Free?
No. Free allows up to 20 MB per file, and the whole submission must also stay within 20 MB. Pro and Business raise the per-file limit to 1 GB.
Can respondents upload several files in one field?
Yes. Set Maximum Files from 1 to 10; the default is 1. The submission's total size limit still applies across all upload fields.
Can I accept any file type?
Yes. Leave Allowed File Types empty to accept any type. To restrict uploads, use file extensions in that setting.
Where do uploaded files go?
Files are stored with the submission. You can download them from Submissions.
