# How to create a quiz with scores and different results in Makeform

Create a scored quiz for free with choice questions and a **Calculation** field in the form editor. Use **Manage post submit actions** under the last page's submit button to send each score range to a different ending.

**Is it free?** Yes. Answer scoring, calculation fields, and ending logic are free on every plan.

## Steps

1. Describe the quiz at [makeform.ai/create](https://www.makeform.ai/create), with no account needed to start. Then [adjust it with AI](/help/guides/create-a-form-with-ai) or build it manually with **+** (**Add form element**).
2. From **Input blocks**, add choice questions using **Multiple Choice · Select One**, **Single Select**, **Checkboxes**, or **Multi Select**. In each question's options, turn on **Enable scoring** and type the points for each answer. These points contribute to that question's `.score` value in calculations.
3. Add a **Calculation** field, whose default label is “Total Score”. For questions named `q1`, `q2`, and `q3`, use:

   ```text
   {{q1.score}} + {{q2.score}} + {{q3.score}}
   ```

   Set **Respondent display** to **Hidden** or **Visible output**.
4. Use **Add ending** to create result pages, up to a maximum of 10. To show the weighted total on an ending, add a **Text** block containing your calculation's name, such as `{{total_score}}`. Alternatively, add **Result Breakdown** for a result based on correct-answer counts; its score is different from the weighted total.
5. Click **Manage post submit actions** under the last page's submit button. In **Post-submit actions** > **Ending logic**, click **Add rule**. Set **When field** to the calculation, choose **greater than**, **less than**, or **equals**, enter **Value**, and set **Go to** to the result ending. Set **Fallback ending (when no rule matches)**. The first matching rule wins.
6. Preview and test each score range, including answers that should reach the fallback, then publish.

## Choose which score to show

Your calculation adds the points assigned to answers. Use that calculation in a text block when you want respondents to see the weighted total.

**Result Breakdown** has controls for **Show score**, **Show correct answers**, **Show explanations**, **Show Try again**, **Celebrate this result**, and **Mark right and wrong**.

The score in **Result Breakdown** counts correct answers. It does not display the weighted points from your calculation.

## Order your result rules

Ending rules are checked in order. If a total matches more than one rule, the first match determines the ending. The fallback handles totals that match none of your rules, so include it when testing the result ranges.

## FAQ

### Can I give some answers more points than others?

Yes, turn on **Enable scoring** and enter points per option. Add each question's `.score` value in a calculation to get the weighted total.

### Why is my result breakdown different from my total?

**Result Breakdown** counts correct answers rather than weighted points. To show your calculated total, use the calculation's variable in a text block on the ending.

### Can respondents see different results based on their score?

Yes, use ending rules based on the calculation field. Choose a result ending for each rule and set a fallback for totals that match no rule.

### How many result pages can I add?

You can have up to 10 ending pages per form. Use **Add ending** to create them, then assign them in ending logic.
