# How to collect a signature in an online form with Makeform

Add a **Signature** block from the form editor to collect a signature drawn with a mouse or finger. It is free on every plan, and the signature is saved as an image with the submission.

**Is it free?** Yes. The Signature block and submission PDF export are free on every plan.

## Steps

1. Open your form in the editor, click **+**, and choose **Signature**.
2. Edit the label, which defaults to **Please sign below**.
3. Adjust the optional **Signature Label**, **Max Size (KB)**, and pen and canvas options. The default maximum size is 500 KB.
4. Put the agreement text above the signature with a **Text** block. Add **Short Text Input** for a full name and **Date Picker** for a date if you need those fields.
5. Publish the form so respondents can draw their signatures.

## What respondents see

Respondents draw on the signature canvas with their mouse or touch screen. They can clear the signature and redraw it before submitting. The Signature block captures a drawn signature, not a typed signature.

Agreement text belongs above the signature field in a Text block. If you also need a full name or date, collect those with the separate fields in the steps above.

## View, export, or print signatures

The signature image appears with the submission and in its PDF. Open **Submissions** and choose **Export submission PDF** to export the answers and signature image.

You can also attach a PDF to emails. For the owner email, **Attach PDF with answers** requires Pro or Business. Respondent email notifications also require Pro or Business; owner email notifications themselves are free.
